High school teen Keziah defends controversial outfit

A HIGH faculty pupil has come below hearth after posting photos of herself in her promenade costume.

Keziah Daum, from Utah in america, posted a collection of images of herself together with her associates on the way in which to her highschool promenade.

However her determination to put on a qipao — a conventional Chinese language outfit relationship again to the 17th century — has prompted a wave of criticism on-line.

The publish started making the rounds after one other consumer — Jeremy Lam — retweeted it with the caption “My tradition is NOT your goddamn promenade costume.”

In a collection of subsequent tweets, Lam defined that the costume represented “excessive obstacles marginalized individuals inside (Chinese language) tradition have needed to overcome”.

Whereas his tweets criticising Duam’s determination to put on the costume went viral, customers had been divided on whether or not it was a difficulty.

Some agreed, arguing that it constituted cultural appropriation and was inappropriate.

However others argued that it wasn’t a giant deal, saying her option to put on it was an act of admiration for the tradition.

Keziah addressed the criticism on Twitter, standing by her determination to put on the costume.

She mentioned she meant no disrespect to Chinese language tradition, saying she was “merely exhibiting appreciation” for it.

“I’m not deleting my publish as a result of I’ve accomplished nothing however present my love for the tradition,” she wrote. “It’s a f**king costume. And it’s stunning.”

When somebody requested her if she was part-Chinese language, she responded: “Nope! It’s only a fairly costume I discovered and it’s a classic costume from a classic store!:)”
