Doing brace position this way in a plane crash is WRONG and can badly injure you

THE brace position is one of the most important rules if a plane is crashing.

If the aircraft is going down, the cabin crew will continuously shout “Brace, brace” until it reaches the ground.

Locking your fingers during the brace position could prove very dangerous.

Passengers are supposed to put their head between their knees, with their hands over the top to protect the back of the skull.

The temptation is to lace the fingers while doing this, to keep the hands in place during what would likely be quite a bumpy journey.

But it turns out that locking your fingers could prove very dangerous.

During a Reddit conversation where flight attendants were asked what people didn’t know about airlines, a user said that passengers should instead place one hand over the over.

Passengers should not 'lock' their fingers on their heads, but instead place one hand on top of the other

They said: “In the event of a situation where passengers have to cover their heads, you do not ‘lock’ your fingers on your head but place one hand on top of the other.

“If something falls on your hand/head, you’ll still have one good hand to use.”

A second contributor added: “I’d take that a step further and say to put your non-dominant hand on top.

“That way, your most useful hand will be the one that survives.”

Last year, Sun Online Travel also revealed that passengers should avoid wearing Lycra leggings or ‘yoga pants’ on flights, because they could prove fatal in a plane crash.

Aviation expert Christine Negroni told us that leggings could prove fatal – or at the very least leave terrible scars – if the plane you are travelling on crashes or has a fire in the cabin.

Christine also told us  her guide to surviving a plane crash – that could end up saving your life.
